nVidia Issues

Hey guys,
I've had this problem for a few weeks now, so I'm glad this site is back up :)
It started happening about a month ago, I would be using my system (Vista, 8800GTX) and all of the sudden the display driver would stop, the display would go a funny purple and even sometimes a BSOD whinging about the nvlddmkm.sys driver. I've tried with all sorts of drivers, including the latest but to no avail.
At boot, it would display artifacts randomly, and if it gets into windows, it would appear like its in 8bit colour with a ridiculously small resolution. I spent some time reseating the card, checking that it wasnt overheating and stuff, and just as randomly as the error occurs, it would dissapear.
So, I jumped on the Windows 7 bandwagon hopping a clean install would fix my issues, and it did... to some extent. Was running sweet for a few weeks until last night, when the issues reappeared. Sometimes i'd be lucky to get into the desktop, although it would BSOD after only a few seconds sometimes, and then others I was fine for hours.
So, I guess I'm at a loss as to whats going on. From what i've been able to find on google, it *could* be that some of the RAM on my 8800GTX has fried, although it can and does work for days sometimes without issue.
Any of you guys had sometime similar, or have any suggestions?
The Brad:
Tell me are you overclocking?
I had precisely the same symptoms which turned out to be an overheating Southbridge, partly from overclocking, partly because the graphics card & CPU cooler tower sat right there creating a hotspot.
Bastidge Child:
Sounds like the video card is on the way out or it's unstable at those speeds.
Open the side panel and get a desk/spare case fan to get things cooled.
If that doesn't help then see if there's a video card bios update, or RMA the bastidge.
Shikimaru:
Can you give it a try with another card? See if you can recreate the problem.

Not overclocking. The mobo is passively cooled, and the 8800GTX does produce quite a large amount of heat.
I dont havnt another card available to try unfortunately. I'll try cracking the case fans inside up to full, and adjust the gfx cards fan from auto to something like 80%....
