MakeYourOwn Thin Client
« on: August 03, 2009, 07:55:20 PM »
Well Tweakage is probably the wrong place...but who looks at the categories, really? Basically I'm aiming to build a thin client like OS. I want it to...boot up, bring up an automatic connection to a Citrix published app, then once the citrix app process ends, shut down.

Discuss.

I can handle the Citrix app part, so if you're a linux guru, or even have used linux before..you're probably a step up on me, I want the equivalent of this:

*User presses power butan*
Whir whir whir..machine boots up.
VNC and SSH load, so we can remote manage if necessary.
Loads Citrix Receiver, connects to published app called "Citrix Desktop".
When the Citrix Receiver ends, the machine shuts down.
Profit.

Basically we have ~400 XP machines out there and we're moving to a completely Citrix based environment, we don't see the need to manage and lock down the local OS as *well* as the Citrix environment. Also, I'd like to be able to remove any methods of browsing the net or network from the machine as well. OS must be free...but I don't really care what it is.

I probably sound like a rambling duck but if anyone can make any suggestions that'd be fantastic...

Peace.
