Getting Blu balls
« on: September 04, 2008, 06:51:02 PM »
I'm dying here...

And so so is my hard drive with all these 10GB mkv's living on it, damn pioneer.

Brad or Zebra, any news? Can you leak any new features or anything about upcoming new drives?

Not asking for a release date, just a round about figure.

my only guess is that they're wanting to recoup costs on the second gen(first gen readily available to the public), and on top of that, developing dual layer BD-R...

as pioneer is a rather conservative company, they'll want to get it right, rather than release a half-arsed product.

Agreed, it's not like there is cheap media coming out or ears... (well, except stripes maybe).

The BDR-202 is a solid drive, and there have been some significant price cuts... if you need to burn blu go get one.

Would you rather good products that come out when they're ready, or a new shit product (which is a minor revision of the previous shit model) every couple of months?

Chipped. I know you desperately want to pirate PS3 games for your console, but the truth is dude - a new burner isn't going to help ye here. The PS3 is, and will remain unhacked for a VERY long time. I've explained to you several times why it's so hard to "hack" a PS3...and why it is futile to live in hope.

Just relax with it. If you need a blu-burner, get one now.

Its not for burning games, I download mkv's,convert them to mp4 and share them with mates who have PS3's, media boxes etc

I could fit entire Seasons of TV shows on 1 Blu Ray disk. The problem with current burners are that they are simply too slow, I'm not going to buy one when there is a new one coming out soon, I have waited a year so 3 more months wont kill me.

Fair call, but you know the age old addage. If you wait for the next best thing, you'll be waiting forever.

I just jumped in a while back with the LG ggw 20 or whatever their bd/HD burner reader is. Yeah it can be slow but the one disk I made plays perfectly on my Panasonic bdp-10a so I'm happy with it for now.
I also got it because I at this point have way more HD movies then BD but I also want to be able to burn blu as the need arises. Like Z said, you can wait forever, or just jump in after you've decided what you want and how much your willing to spend. Later as the tech improves and hopefully gets cheaper you can upgrade. I've been through probably 10 CDRW drives, and maybe 15 or 20 DVDRW drives since I started out and each first one was over 300 bucks US to buy. I like new toys 8)
Prices come down, tech gets better and faster, either you jump in early and pay a bit more or just wait for the best bang for buck after it's established.

Maybe so, but it doesn't fix certain aspects of what it can burn...and cannot burn.

You know you don't have to re-encode them, you can just remux them to do this?  Or even better use TVersity?

I do remux them and share them through TVersity, I dont use on the fly transcoding though, its dodgy.

Problem is when I want to share them.

Waiting on a proof of concept exploit. All we've seen so far are the calls dumped and memory regions mapped from HV. If we can see OtherOS being manipulated, it might be a little more believable. Not saying it's untrue - but we need to see something...useful, to be more excited, I guess...

Releasing something like this now that can never work on the slim is kinda... Pointless.  But I guess we'll see what becomes of it.  It was always likely that the break was going to come from OtherOS.

Ah, I've been following that blog since he started it.

Kudos to the bloke, iPhone and Playstation 3, Japanese and American, both big products and both leaders in their industry. He has outdone himself, but somehow I dont think hes done, what will he conquer next? iPad?

I think in the 2 - 3 years that the PS3 (fat) was out, all the people who would benefit from unsigned applications, amongst other things... would have already bought a PS3.

I think that quote is pretty ridiculous but then many would say that's par for the course.

Fact is, this is a curiosity at this time, the PS3 is not hacked yet.  Not even close.

I hope your right, I have a spare original Playstation 3 that plays Playstation 2 games, has a card reader and might be hackable. This will further boost its value :D
