Avi to DVD conversion. What do you use ???
« on: October 25, 2007, 07:44:30 PM »
As per topic.
I currently use nero vision or MainConcept/TmpegDVDAuthor, but have used these methods for a while.
I was wondering if my methods were now superceded by more recent software.
I tried WinAVI yesterday, but to be honest the playback left a lot to be desired. A bit of 'pulsing' and stuttering in the playback.
Not the Discs cos the same happens when played back from file.
So what do you use?

Is TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress as quick as it sounds?

I use VSO ConvertX to DVD.
Quick, easy, and the quality is great.
You're in the grocery store.
You ask someone where's the cereal aisle.
The person points you in the right direction.
What do you do?
You make a mother fucking mixtape!

Yeh Arghdee
Me and I am sure Amph use the old xbox as a media center, but sometimes you just have to convert the files.

Not in my house buddy :P

The only time I would convert the files is for someone else to watch.. and they get them as I have them - if they want them converted they can do it themselves.

However, if I were to do such a conversion myself, Toast Titanium would be the application of choice.

Ulead DVD Movie Factory kills all the others for quality, and sync.

But just get a DIVX player and be done with it...

Already got a divx player and an xbox with xbmc
I dont expect my parents or in laws to watch stuff on pc or convert it themselves.
I did try ulead dvd movie factory a year or so ago and wasnt impressed with it, maybe it is time to have another look.

OK
Had a play with the software, and the one I like the best is VSO ConvertXtoDVD.
Works well, and does everything I need.
Once set up how you like, converting to dvd is as simple as putting a disc in the dvdrw, Open the program and dragging the avi file into the box,
click on 'convert' and 30 mins later ( high quality) the disc is ready to play. It can be set to automatically insert chapters or menu
Managed to convert 3 different avi files at the same time too, and only took a little longer as I set the dvdrw to burn @8x to avoid buffer problems.
I have installed this for a mate that is technophobic, and he uses it without any problems with good results.
Worth a look anyway. Cheers Amph

No probs matty.
That is eactly the same thing I like about it...
You set it up once, then thats it...
No fuss, good quality conversion...
It will also do multiple files on a disc etc... usually 2 xvids will go on a dvd with no quality loss...
I have managed 3, but there was some minimal quality loss once i added the menu... still a great disc tho. :)

As long as the total amount of video doesnt exceed four hours it doesnt matter how many titles you put on the disc.
Ideal for putting tv progs onto disc etc

EDIT:
Just managed to get 3 films (about 6 hours) on to one disc.
Quality looks great on SD tv, and doesnt look bad at all through PS3 (upscaler on) 1920x1200 on 24"
