DVD Decrypter has been shut down forever due to cease and desist orders and legal threats from an unidentified company.

DVD Decrypter is one of the longest standing DVD ripping tools.

Well I dunno, it was an incredibly popular way of defeating protection on DVDs. The fact that it was such a  great product and had lots of users would have made it a big threat to certain companies. So in my eyes, its not a huge surprise that this happened, but it is a shock...

Actually, Lightning himself made oft. suggestion that he was surprised that this didn't happen sooner, given the fame and popularity of the application.

Its a sad day for all... He gave over the code to some company, wonder if the CEO's of that company would be using it anytime soon. :-)

I have heard is pretty good but there are many people that still use DVD Decrypter.

i am using dvd decrypter as well but as soon as they anounced it finninshed i started to search for a replacement
so when dvd decrypter does not do its job anymore i can use the other one

dam it has been a good program

how will this effect us like now ?

does it still decrypt dvd's up until or furth then 2006 ? or will some sort of new protection code come in and it wont be able to crack it very soon ?

The development of it has halted but its still floating around... If a new encryption method is released we will need to look for alternatives.
