OK found the D designation in a eBay auction, it's a 1100d if that helps everyone. Here's the USA Canon page for it http://usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_rebel_t3_18_55mm_is_ii_kit

Well a T2 or 3i will be my next goal I guess but couldn't pass it up for the money. The bigger LCD is great, my old one was tiny and it was hard to tell if the shot was good and focused and all that. The higher end ones have a even better LCD, then there's the more pro oriented and full frame ones too.

Hmmm, What do people think about starting up a thread purely as a database of the equipment we currently own, and have this just for discussion of photography(including gear we own)?

Might be a good idea as I plunked in here watching the discussion then remembered I had just got that new camera. Keep this one for discussing gear we want and posting our latest shots and the other for what we have like the hard drive thread.

So his initial want was ~$600 for the 90D body + battery grip, and ~$600 for one of the lenses. Seemed a bit high since Camera Warehouse has a 90D, twin lens VR kit and extras for $1599.

Yeah, i'd look at a new kit, at that price, to be honest.

Yeah, sounds high to me too. Keep looking and you'll find a better deal used as somebody will have upgraded and not want to hang onto their older but good gear long to help offset their upgrade, like my old 350d camera that has a bunch of extra batteries and memory cards that I'll probably sell soon.
If you have deal sites like they have here like Slick Deals and Fat Wallet watch them for new gear as that's how I found the deals on both of my new kits.

Just check out d-d-photographics or dwi, there's plenty of grey import options there, for good prices.

(also, camera equip. db thread is posted in multimedia)

If any of you are after some good post processing software - you can have yourself Lightroom 3 for $124 + GST (Digital download) direct from Adobe
http://www.adobe.com/au/products/photoshoplightroom/

The lightroom 4 beta is out on adobe labs too (for free)
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom4/

It can do some pretty wizard stuff, especially if you shoot raw

Friend: You are into cameras and stuff right?

me: Yes.

Friend: What kind of camera should I get for <$400 that I can take on my honeymoon?

me: I'll have a look and get back to you.

Thoughts?

There are a lot of good cameras out there for that kind of money if he wants to go a year out of date or just get a excellent point and shoot.
I got my slight upgrade Canon T3/1100d kit here at a office store on closeout for 373 with the nicer 18-55IS lens and I'm sure deals like that can be had on your side of the world if he's willing to do some shopping around.

Yeah, the S100 is probably the best option. Easy to use, decent results... warranty shouldn't be too difficult if ever required. It's a bit of a 'go-to' point and shoot camera suggestion these days.

Thanks Gents

She isn't super keen on photography (ie:with an SLR she would only ever use "Green Box Mode") so i think i'll steer her toward the S100

Cheers.
