Hey
Like not washing machine shake but i can feel the case vibrating quite a bit. Are there any tests i can use to see if it isnt meant to work like that? When watching dvd's it will start vibrating alot and pause at random points (have to remove disc to continue) (discs are clean)
Its a 111D Btw, stock firmware i think

I've seen instances where there were lightscribe disks that had an unbalanced picture burnt on to them, and they've started vibrating a drive when used........

no, really!!!

When you say stock firmware, do you mean that you have never updated it?!. Please make sure firmware is current!

I AnyDVD my movies to the hard drive just before watching them if I can be bothered.

Well i guess i should update it then.

I might have fucked the internals somehow. I got a flimsy disc from a friend and i acidentally cracked it (had it in my jeans pants) so i thought id be funny by taping it back together (it didnt split into two just cracked) and sending it back to him. I put it into my pc to see if it would work and the thing started doing that vibrating thing for the first time.

It was a pirated disc so my actions are justified :D

Also sometimes if a disc isnt being read properly, if i press the eject button the disc will still be spinning in the tray..

and where should i grab the firmware from? Pioneers website or do you guys have some custom firmware up for grabs?

Yikes... why would you do that to your poor drive!  There's no WAY it would read the disc and off center stuff in it isn't cool.

Try a stock update first.... then if you feel the urge we can hellp you cross-flash it into an 111L (which has labelflash/disc t@2 functionality).  Of course if there is a chance you will be returning the drive... it's best to stick with the stock fw.

Get the stock update here...

"
/// ODD Firmware Update Utility Ver2.37A

Start updating the device No.1.
Current Revision>> PIONEER DVD-RW  DVR-111  1.29  06/08/10
Current Signature = GENERAL
Hardware Revision is not matched."

Does that mean ive updated it in the past?

he fucked the drive himself... i dont personally think that RMA is a morally correct solution.....

go out, buy another drive, and dont use damaged disks in it... simple.

Ok well this is most likely my lack of knowledge being at fault here however when i try to burn anything onto good media (worked at 16x under linux with k3b) i get speeds of 1.9x to 0x in imgburn and the whole computer lags.

There are no other apps except for firefox and avg running, as well as some other services i dont know of probably. The hdd and the DVD drive are both on the IDE controller (Primary and secondary respective) and i have a Nforce 3 150 board. I might try updating the ide drivers once this burn finishes... but untill then here is the error log

and for all those who are worrying about legalities of the image i can post a pic of myself with GOW Box + original disc doing dirty things :P

A new drive is < $50

BUY A NEW DRIVE AND DON'T DO WHAT YOU DID TO THIS ONE EVER AGAIN.

Consider it an idiot tax.

Ok. Wait. Lets just step back for one sec.

Dude, have you checked to see if the drive is running in PIO mode, rather than the (correct) DMA mode? Check in device manager, in your EIDE/PATA channel area...

If it's running in PIO, the EXACT situation you've described could crop up.

Multiword DMA is ideal. Mode4 is optimal. :) Make sure you are running an 80 wire cable man.

Sweet! Set it to DMA mode 4, make sure it sticks, do a reboot - then try doing some high speed burns in ImgBurn. Make sure it STAYS in DMA!

Oh crap :\.

Ok. Two things:

1. Try isolating the driver set. Are you running the NF drivers? If not, try them. If so, ditch them
2. Swap the EIDE cable out for another one
3. Shove it on a different channel

...if all this fails, you don't have a blown OPU or PUH. You've got a blown EIDE/PATA controller on the back of the burner -_-. Lose at life. RMA.

You're getting CRC data errors, I had this happen once.

Try the drive in another PC, if it does the same thing RMA or just buy a new one.
