But that's not always for everyone
You could always go for something like Ubuntu, then just choose a server install (no X or anything) and then install what else you need from there
Trouble is, ubuntu is a little bit of a memory pig, but it is feature rich in terms of it's support. That I cannot deny
Gentoo is like a blank canvas, you paint it how you want it
Ubuntu is more like a hardware store, supports everything, including the kitchen sink
