DVR-111D flashing
« on: June 21, 2006, 09:23:56 AM »
Ok so I finally signed up here :P
I have jsut got my 'orrible little hands on a DVR-111D burner to replace my old faithful 109, which I will pass on to a mate.
The 111D is at firmaware 1.19 so I went off to http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=25
and downloaded DVR_FW123EU.exe to update to 1.23.
Problem is I get the output
///ODD Firmware Update Utility  Ver 2.35b
Start updating the device No 1.
Current revision>>  Pioneer  DVD-RW DVR-111d 1.19 06//03/31
Current Signature = General
Hardware Revision is not matched
So I am getting an error and the firmware will not update.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong here?
I wouldn't employ the management of Telstra to run a length of string between two jam tins.

Have you tried using DVRFlash to upgrade it?

What steps have you taken so far?

This should tell us what might be wrong

/Does a bit of quick learning about dvrflash.
Ok DVRFlash output is.

Reading firmware 'A0012001.123'...
firmware is of Normal type (PIONEER DVD-RW  DVR-111  1.23 )

Drive Information:
   Description : PIONEER DVD-RW  DVR-111D
  Firmware Rev : 1.19
 Firmware Date : 06/03/31
  Manufacturer : PIONEER
Drive is in normal mode.

Additional Drive Information:
 Serial Number : FEDC625584WL
Interface type : ATA
DVR generation : 0812
   Kernel type : GENERAL
   Normal type : GENERAL
Kernel version : 0001

        Status : RPC-2 (region locked)
        Region : none
Changes : 5 region changes remaining
                 4 vendor resets remaining
                 state is 'Region not set'

The PIONEER DVD-RW  DVR-111D is not supported by this utility - Aborting

All I can think of of the top of my head is that it is an OEM drive. It is a black unbranded one, but if so then would it have the 1.19 firmware?

Update.
Just tried with the official firmware downloaded from Pioneer and it worked so not sure what went wrong with the RPC1.orgs version.

Ok. DVRflash won't work on a 111 series unit. It's just not possible dude.

It would seem to me that you've tried to flash a 111 or A11 kernel on there, and not the 111D kernel.

Can you verify the download link from pioneer.co.jp was for the 111D kernel?

Cheers.

z.

Well I got the firmaware from here.
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=25
after posting I went to here
http://wwwbsc.pioneer.co.jp/product-e/ibs/device_e/dev00001r_e.html
and as I said in my edit the one from pioneer worked so I now have 1.23 firmwared 111D.
/does the happy happy dance.

And on another note, welcome to Speedlabs, aliali.

Another Tasmanian.. always good to have another one aboard.

There's a couple of us on here.. I'm from Hobart (ex Launceston), Caelum is in Launceston.
Might even be another one or two lurking about the place.

I lived in Davenport for about a year.... Does that count?
You're in the grocery store.
You ask someone where's the cereal aisle.
The person points you in the right direction.
What do you do?
You make a mother fucking mixtape!
